UBLMN7-30-3 - PVs Advantages/Disadvantages

Type of PV (Defference) - Advantages/Disadvantages

Polycrystalline (多晶矽)

Pros
- Cheaper in term of cost
- More option of product available in market

Cons
- Low efficiency
- Big plant space required

Monocrystalline (單晶矽)

Pros
- Higher efficiency (The average efficiency of monocrystalline modules is about 14% and 20% modules are available at a premium, whereas the typical efficiency of polycrystalline modules is about 13%.)
- Suitable for limited space condition
- Consist of single type of crystal slice

Cons
- Expensive / high cost
- Limited brand available in market

PV Hybrid with battery (PV混合電池)

Pros
- Reduce waste energy production
- Storage of generated energy, allow fully usage of energy
- More readily for the system to meet the peak demand

Cons
- High maintenance cost
- Higher initial cost
- More complicated control shall be designed

Building-integrated photovoltaics (BiPV)

Building-integrated photovoltaics (BiPV) could be a solution to overcome the space problem
of conventional PV array. BiPV are photovoltaic materials that are used to replace conventional
building materials in parts of the building envelope such as the roof, skylights, or facades.
Some of the advantages of building integrated photovoltaic (BiPV) distributed systems are as
follows:

Pros
- Can help reduce peak loads and utility demand
- Reduces the cost and losses in transmission and distribution of electricity
- Serve as both the building envelope material and the power generator
- Provide savings in materials and electricity costs
- Add architectural interest to the building.
- No site development cost, BiPV is part of the building
- BiPV system provide public expression of environmental commitment

Cons
- Higher cost is the biggest disadvantage of BiPV
- BiPV Efficiency is lower
- Difficult and expensive to retrofit older buildings
- More complex and requires high labor charges.

Solar

Pros
- It's a renewable resource, no life on our planet, it's endless
- Zero noise: solar energy production by solar panels that solar energy is free from noise.

Cons
- Large solar energy systems are costly and difficult in terms of finding the location.
- Although most location receives sunlight, not every location is workable for solar panels.
